Arcadia Rocks Band Program Outline

Arcadia Band Program is a band performance program that is part of Arcadia Academy of Music. We encourage all our students to participate in the band program to give them experience in a band and performance setting. This encourages interaction with other students and interaction with parents as well.

The program runs 2-3 times a year. There are 2 segments, October to January and March to June that will run for 14 weeks each; once a week rehearsal for 12 weeks, then in week 13 there will be a live performance at a venue determined by the host location(s). On week 14, each band will be able to record at the  Arcadia Woodbridge Recording Facility in Woodbridge OR a recording studio approved by Arcadia Head Office.

There is also a condensed summer (July and August) segment that runs for 8 weeks, if a location chooses to do so; 2 rehearsals per week for the first 3 weeks, then in week 7, a live performance (taking place at an approved by Head Office venue) and finally in week 8, recording at an approved by Head Office recording studio or at Arcadia Woodbridge Recording Facility.

Students are put through an audition process so that they can be matched with other students of the same skill level. Once they are placed in a band, they are asked to suggest song ideas to cover. The group is also asked to try and write an original song with the Instructor’s help. The program is open to all instruments.

Arcadia Rocks Help Promote Foo Fighters Concrete & Gold Album Release!

This is just one of the exciting things that can happen when a student is part of the Arcadia Rocks Band Program. Sony Music Canada approached Arcadia with the idea of putting together a group of students to record a song by one of their Sony Music artists. They didn’t say who at first, but we jumped at the chance anyway, feeling this would be a great chance for some of our students.

A group of students was chosen from all the locations that participate in the band program on a regular basis; an all-star band if you will. Some of the videos used to choose the students was submitted to Sony Music Canada and they submitted them to their New York office and they loved the kids that were chosen.

When we were told that the recording and shooting a video was a go, Sony Music then revealed to us that this was to help promote the release of the new Foo Fighters album titled Concrete & Gold. Foo Fighters had already released 2 new songs/videos from the upcoming album and Sony Music asked us to choose one to record and shoot a video for. Once we decided on The Sky Is A Neighbourhood, we informed the students that were chosen to participate in the project and began rehearsals.

After we were finished recording and mastering the song, Sony brought us to the Sony Music sound stage to shoot the video. The premise was to make it look like the kids were trying to copy the Foo Fighters’ video and make it look “homemade”. After a full day of shooting, Sony edited the footage into the video below. Thanks Sony Music Canada, Foo Fighters and our amazing Arcadia Rocks students!
